Consumer Trend: Designer Pepper Spray
Cherry Johnson, of Canvas Salon and Boutique, says the Palm Defender is the world's smallest non-lethal pepper spray. It has a light-weight, aerospace aluminum body that her customers love.
"We've only been carrying the sprays about two weeks. We've sold out almost all of our order,” said Johnson.
The designer version, preferred by Hollywood’s glitterati, is swathed in Swarovski crystals.
"Husbands have been coming in to buy them for their wives or their girlfriends. We've had moms who've purchased them for their daughters, nieces and sisters,” said Johnson.
Cherry says the Palm Defender is sleek unlike the original sprays.
"I know that pepper spray has been popular for a long time. I myself have carried one for many years but I know that they're big and bulky,” commented Johnson.
She likes this new pepper spray so much she's giving them to employees.
Here's how it works: you're leaving work, walking out to your car, the suddenly someone attacks! All you have to do is turn, spray, and leave.
“It's that easy,” said Johnson.
If you're afraid you'll flub it in a real emergency, Cherry sells tester cartridges so you can practice.
"Then they could learn to use it so they feel confident,” explained Johnson.
The basic Palm Defense pepper spray sells for $37. The Swarovski Crystal version cost more than $100.
